“There are elements of intrinsic beauty in the simplification of a house built on the log cabin idea.”

Log cabin in the woods
There is nothing more romantic than a hand built log cabin set in the forest away from the world. After WWII, members of the Flood family set about to build the log cabin you will be staying in. Each log was cut by hand from the surrounding spruce forest. The bark was peeled, the logs were cut to length and notched by hand with an ax. The logs were then lifted and spiked into their present location using nothing but a block & tackle, physical effort and resolve. Even today, you can see the cuts that were all made by hand decades ago.
Private Beach
Set in the forest, the Log Cabin is approximately 100 feet from the shore, with its own private beach just out the front door and down over the rocks. You can see lobster buoys through the tall, mature, spruce trees and hear the lobster boats in the morning as they haul their traps. This private beach is the perfect place at which to launch your kayaks or canoes on an ocean voyage.
Open Concept
The trees that surround the Log Cabin are well over 100 years. The Log Cabin is based upon an open concept floor plan with one large first floor room with an attached bathroom, a loft bedroom, galley style open kitchen, beautiful fireplace and mantel and finally a comfortable screened porch. There are five single beds - two on the first floor, two in the loft and one on the screened in porch. Two sky lights above help bath the open living area with plenty of natural light and the comfortable couch in front of the fireplace provides a perfect spot to curl up and read a good book.
Screened Porch
One of the best features of the screened porch is the views of the ocean and the fresh smell of blue spruce mixed with the smell of the salt water ocean air that surrounds the Log Cabin. The private beach is just out the front porch door and down over the rocks. Make a hard right hand turn from the porch and you find yourself on the “Big Rock” with some of the best views of the ocean and Flood’s Cove. Some say this is the perfect spot for a morning cup of coffee as you wake up. The “Big Rock",” however, also happens to be THE place to jump off into the water at high tide for kids and the young at heart. There is also a twin bed for those who are looking for the full Log Cabin outdoors sleeping experience and plenty of comfortable rocking chairs to kick back and enjoy the view or have a glass of wine with some cheese and crackers.
Spruce Forest
You access the Log Cabin by driving down the long driveway through the mature spruce forest or through the foot path that connects the Log Cabin to the rest of Flood's Cove including the playground, beach, public dock off Ruby Rock and the rest of the cottages. This cottage offers the perfect mix of privacy while only being a short walk away from the heart of Flood’s Cove.
If you enjoy the smell of a spruce forest coupled with the song of the sea birds and ocean waves while dining on the screened porch, then Log Cabin is for you. The ocean vistas from the front porch offer some of the best views of the water and Pa’s Island as well as ocean sunsets that make wonderful vacation memories you will keep forever.
Join us at Flood's Cove and enjoy a truly unique vacation location at the Log Cabin.
